Tony Barba: bio

Tony Barba

Anthony Barba graduated from the esteemed NYU jazz performance program in 2001 where he studied tenor saxophone and woodwinds with such notable teachers as George Garzone, Ralph Lalama, and Gerardo Levy. Since graduating, Anthony has been a much sought-after New York City saxophonist specializing in almost every style of music, including jazz, funk, rock, pop, latin, avant-garde and classical. He can be seen performing in New York venues such as the Blue Note, the Knitting Factory, Barbes, the Tea Lounge, the 55 bar, Birdland, and the Stone. Anthony has performed in the United States, Europe, and Canada with such artists as Dave Douglas, Andrew Hill, Tony Malaby, Ben Monder, David Murray, Angelica Sanchez, Al Vizutti, Tony Scherr, Steven Bernstein, Satoko Fujji, Herb Robertson, Oscar Noriega, Andrew D’Angelo, Ellery Eskelin, Shane Endsley, Matt Moran, Joe Fiedler, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Currently Anthony leads his own band, the Barbarian Horde, and co-leads the Brooklyn Qawwali Party. He also tours internationally with the Youngblood Brass Band and is a member of the New York based Jeff Davis Quintet. In addition to performing, Anthony also teaches woodwinds at the Hudson School of Hoboken and the Third Street Music Settlement in Manhattan.
